A few years ago, an old landowner lent a St. Petersburg dandy 15 thousand rubles on the security of the estate. The old woman knew the mother of this dandy and completely trusted him. Time passed, but the debt was not repaid. Meanwhile, the mortgage payment period approached, and an “terrible prospect of cold and hunger with a crippled daughter and little granddaughter” opened over the old woman. Leaving loved ones to a neighbor, the old woman went to Petersburg to "get busy."

At first, everything went smoothly. “In court, the decision was swift and favorable,” but then “went a penny”: the debtor should have handed over the paper with a receipt, which no one dared to do - the dandy had very high patrons. It turned out that the debtor was registered in the apartment building, and lives with a certain lady, so there was no way to deliver the paper to the address.

Everyone was very sorry for the old woman, but no one was trying to help. Frant owed half of St. Petersburg, and never repaid his debts. Finally, the old woman met a man who agreed to help her. He called himself a "genius" and requested 500 rubles - 200 to himself, and 300 to his assistant.In the meantime, the debtor with his rich lady was going on a trip abroad. The old woman had to trust the "genius." He found some "Serbian fighter" who caught the debtor at the station on the day of departure and gave him a slap in the face. The police intervened. Frant had to introduce himself, and he was immediately handed the paper. To immediately go abroad, the debt had to be paid. So the old assistant assistant earned the right to be considered a genius.
