The post-punk band Buerak is currently at the peak of popularity. This is a new-wave in musical culture. This phenomenon is due to several factors, such as: relevance and ease of perception. A great example is the song “Passion for Smoking”.
At first glance, this composition has no special semantic meaning, describing a simple smoker's everyday life. But, on the other hand, it contains many characters. A smoldering cigarette is an embodiment of the brevity of his life, its monotony and routine. The lyrical hero of all the songs of the Buerak group is, as a rule, a small person who is deprived of thoughts about high and global. In the text he gives himself a certain account that he ate, worked, smoked, etc. He is concerned only with everyday problems, issues of survival, which are caused by a low standard of living, marginality. The passion for smoking gives a certain variety to the existence of the lyrical hero, coloring it in brighter colors. This gives him great aesthetic and physical pleasure, giving the usual everyday life a certain mysticism and a touch of freedom from the earthly and mortal, ordinary. This is his reason to leave the boring workplace, think about his own, run away at least for 5 minutes, to return again to count down two hours before the next break. He seems to have finished school, but is still waiting for a change - a typical state of a clerk driven into an office, doomed to work for someone and be content with five minutes of freedom.
In addition, there is a prejudice that smoking calms, helps control emotions. If the hero smokes so actively, then his life goes on nervously and intensely. He manically seeks detente, tranquility, so he is attached to an affordable means that gives a suitable illusion.
When smoking a cigarette, the lyrical hero of the song reflects on the cyclical and short-lived nature of his existence. A cigarette burns out as quickly as his life, and every day is like the previous one:
I really like my passion for smoking.
I smoke a cigarette and it repeats.
I like to watch as the ash crumbles from it.
I smoke a cigarette and it repeats.
