(349 words) Many authors endowed the heroes of their works with the ability to dream. These characters often could not even live without a dream. In my opinion, this condition is typical for most people today. If we don’t have a well-defined idea that inspires us, we lose interest in life. I will give a few arguments in defense of my point of view.
The hero of Richard Bach’s novel “A Seagull named Jonathan Livingston” dreams of understanding the flight, mastering this technique perfectly. He does not want, like other seagulls, to spend day after day in search of food and in meaningless worries. Nobody supports Jonathan, and, in the end, he is expelled from the pack. A seagull learns to live alone. When his soul leaves his body, Jonathan Livingston learns to master time travel. The hero could stay in the flock and do something ordinary, like all other birds. But this would lead to his spiritual death. He was not afraid to be alone and, as a reward for his courage and faith, gained perfection. Now he can teach other "rogue" high art.
Ilya Ilyich Oblomov, the character of the work of the same name by A.I. Goncharov, seems to live well without a certain dream. Every day, he lies on the couch and makes fantastic plans or just thoughtlessly looks around. Nothing can bring him out of a state of apathy. The reason for this is that Oblomov actually has no dreams. He does not see the difference between, for example, vocals and the arrangement of Oblomovka. He sees both of them as a good way to spend time, but the hero quickly gets bored of all such ideas. Perhaps if Ilya Ilyich Oblomov understood what he wants from life, he would be able to find his calling. And so he died in the prime of his life, leaving his son an orphan. His lifestyle is to blame, because a person who does not aspire anywhere is doomed to idleness, which destroys physical and spiritual health.
It turns out that dreams really guide a person. They inspire us, make us act. And we, obeying our inner voice and approaching our ideal, become better and more perfect. Without this, we can only vegetate and languish, succumbing to laziness, and in the end we will only have a boring road to the famous ending, and this can not be called a full-fledged life, so a person cannot live without a dream.
