(409 words) The world is transforming thanks to priceless concepts, without which it is difficult to imagine today. Art and science are integral parts of modern human life, because the first develops a sense of beauty in us, and thanks to the development of science, the necessary things appear: the Internet, drugs for cancer and AIDS, environmental fuels, etc. But what is more important? A classic of Russian literature helps to prioritize.
Some people may pay tribute to art, but they will always make their choice in favor of science. Indeed, without painting and literature a person can live, but without the same medicine - in any way. That’s how the main character of Turgenev’s novel “Fathers and Sons”, Yevgeny Bazarov, reasoned, and therefore he belongs to the phrase: “A decent chemist is twenty times more useful than any poet.” Bazarov is a nihilist, he is completely immersed in science and cannot imagine himself without the work of his whole life - medicine. He is indifferent, even negative, to reading poetry by Nikolai Kirsanov, and later even his own love for Anna Odintsova begins to annoy him. Poets glorifying love seemed to Eugene fools, however, he did not escape the fate of discovering romance in himself. Of course, Yevgeny Bazarov never refused science, he continued to work, conduct experiments and help his father in medical practice, as he saw this as the meaning of his life. But chemistry alone was not enough for him to live, therefore, having lost his incentive to live, for the first time in his entire practice he showed negligence, contracted typhus and died. Apparently, there is something more important than science.
Let us turn to another work of Russian literature - Bulgakov’s novel “The Master and Margarita”. Art in this book plays an important role, because the plot of the work is built not only on the lines of the author himself, but also on the manuscripts of one hero. The master writes a work about Pontius Pilate, and with his work he becomes more expensive than any wealth for Margarita. That is why the girl is doing everything to return her beloved person and his romance, which was unfairly criticized. Woland goes to meet his beloved, and already in the other world, the Master ends his literary creation, freeing Pontius Pilate. Bulgakov emphasizes how important the spiritual world of man is, which is transformed by art. It was honest and free art that was lacking in progressive Soviet society, which, despite technological progress, was significantly degraded.
We cannot exist equally without science and without art. Thanks to science, humanity opens up new opportunities and improves the world in which we live. But what kind of world would it be without the power of art that paints our lives with beautiful shades? Science and art are two integral components of the world that are not mutually exclusive, but for me it is obvious that art is of great importance, as it makes people better, and not just their everyday objects.
