(344 words) The story "Asya" was written by Turgenev in 1857, the main character of the work is the seventeen-year-old girl Anna, as her brother calls Asya.
The main character N.N. travels the world. Staying in the city of N., he attends a student party where he meets the artist Gagin and his sister Asya, usually N.N. avoided the Russians abroad, but this couple somehow attracted his attention.
It seemed to the main character that this was not a brother and sister at all. Asya seemed strange to him: either she was a decent young lady, or a playful child. There were many contradictions in it: knowledge of two languages, loud laughter, "some kind of semi-wild character." But her naturalness, naivety, short black curls, a small nose and round cheeks captivated the narrator, he wanted to know more about her. Such a chance is given to him during a conversation with Gagin, from him N.N. learns that Asya is the illegitimate daughter of a peasant and landowner - Gagin’s father, after the death of her parents, the girl was sent to a boarding school for noble maidens, but “she didn’t learn anything, she’ll come to mind.” Indeed, her energy goes over the edge: the girl is agile, dances beautifully, expertly rides horses, loves needlework. However, sometimes it hides itself under the guise of a cold noblewoman. This dualism originates, of course, in its origin, it is shy and worried about the attacks of the noble society. In fact, Asya is a naive, cheerful, kind soul.
Everything changes with the advent of the girl N.N. - a mutual feeling arises between them, but something constantly stops the young man. However, Asya is a hot and sincere person - she herself confesses love to him. N.N. cannot thank her with something as sincere and decisive. Asya is gloomy, she is pale, sad and even speaks of an imminent death, she does not recognize that bright, laughing young girl, she was in a fever. When N.N. nevertheless decided to take a step towards Asya’s sincere feelings, she was leaving, he was trying to find her, but all to no avail.
In the life of N.N. there were still women, but even in old age he recalls such a sincere Asya, with her natural beauty and true character. This work tells us that you can’t play with the sincere feelings of people, you don’t need to be afraid to take a step towards the person you really love. First love was tragic for Asya, because her chosen one could not match her.
